Inside the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, about an hour from the city
United Arab Emirates · Dubai Desert · Venue
Al Maha stands inside the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, an hour from the city and inside the protected desert rather than beside it. It is the desert resort we know best: our Arabian fairytale editorial was produced there. This page sets out what an Al Maha wedding or celebration involves.

Inside the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, about an hour from the city
October to March for anything outdoors
From a private villa dinner to gatherings of several hundred
Through the reserve, with four wheel drives in the dunes
Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort and Spa, sits within the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. You reach it through the reserve itself, and by the time you arrive the city has gone. That position is what separates it from the desert camps closer to the road: the dunes around it are protected land, so the view stays empty in every direction.
For a wedding this solves the hardest part of a desert celebration. The resort has the kitchens, the staff, the power and the rooms that an open sand site has to bring in from nothing, and the dunes are still right there.
The resort offers several settings, and in its 2026 proposals to us each one came with its own scale.
Emirates Villa
One of the resort’s villas used as a private dining room for a small group, between eight and fifteen guests. Suited to a family dinner the night before, or to a very small wedding.
Al Ru’waa
A private dinner in the dunes for ten to forty guests, with a majlis, a dedicated chef and its own service. The setting closest to the picture most couples have of a desert dinner.
Ghaf Oasis
The setting for a larger gathering, from fifty guests up to four hundred, with a majlis and chefs on site. This is where a full wedding dinner and dancing would sit.
Entry to the reserve is counted guest by guest, so the guest list is part of the logistics from the first week rather than the last. Movement in the dunes is by four wheel drive with a driver, and coaches of thirty five and fifty one seats bring larger groups from the city to the resort.
The resort is about an hour from Dubai and from the international airport. We plan the transfer as part of the evening: a fixed meeting point, a departure hour written into the timeline, and an arrival timed so that guests step out of the vehicles into the last light, not after it.
October to March, the cool season, for anything held outdoors. The day is built around the sun: the ceremony sits in the last light, the dunes turn gold and then rose, and the temperature drops quickly once the sun has gone, so guests need a layer after dark.
Evenings in the dunes have an agreed finishing hour, and anything later is arranged with the resort in advance. Ramadan, which currently falls within the cool season, changes what is possible around music and alcohol and is checked before a date is confirmed.
Our editorial An Arabian Fairytale Reimagined was produced at Al Maha and published by WedVibes in February 2026. Warm neutrals, woven rugs, carved wood and a table set low on the sand, with florals and drapery by Motif Floral built for weight and low centres of gravity rather than height, stationery by The Naqqash Studio and embroidered pieces by Sabr Embroidery.
Designing on open sand is a discipline of its own. Nothing is level, nothing stays where you leave it, and the light that makes the frame worth having lasts under an hour. The setting has to be complete before that hour begins, which is the rule we bring to every desert wedding.
A resort like Al Maha and a private site in the open dunes produce two different weddings. The resort gives you comfort, service and a protected landscape; open sand gives you total freedom and a full build, from generators to flooring. Our Desert Cadillac editorial was shot out in the open dunes, Al Maha inside the reserve. Our desert wedding page sets out both routes in full.
Seasons, guest travel and the legal route for the whole area are on our Dubai Desert wedding page.

What couples ask us first about a wedding or celebration at Al Maha.
The resort hosts private dinners and larger celebrations in its own settings in the dunes. The legal side of a marriage in Dubai depends on your nationality and residency, and many international couples marry legally at home and hold the celebration here.
It depends on the setting. The resort quoted us from eight to fifteen guests for a private villa dinner, ten to forty for a dinner in the dunes at Al Ru’waa, and fifty to four hundred at Ghaf Oasis.
About an hour from the city, inside the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Entry to the reserve is counted per guest; guests travel by coach to the resort and by four wheel drive in the dunes.
November to March, with October possible once the heat has broken. Outdoor events from April to September are not viable in the desert.
Yes. Our editorial An Arabian Fairytale Reimagined was produced at Al Maha and published by WedVibes in February 2026.

Where else we work
An overview of every destination sits on the weddings page.

If Al Maha is where you want to celebrate, the first conversation is about the season, the setting and how many of your guests come with you into the reserve.
