Blue NightAura Sky Pool, Dubai

A dark arrangement staged at Aura Skypool, the rooftop pool on Palm Jumeirah, high above Dubai, where the city becomes a field of light and the night turns everything a deep electric blue.

We designed the evening to belong to the skyline, and the concept was a single word: disappear. Not a table placed in front of the view, but a table inside it. A midnight navy cloth was run the full length of a setting for eighteen, deep enough to read as the water below rather than as linen. The chairs were transparent ghost chairs, which catch no light and cast no shadow and simply stop existing after dark. What was left standing were compact white hydrangeas with white gerberas rising out of them, sculptural, floating clear of the blue like something adrift.

Everything else was pitched to the half light rather than against it. Powder grey napkins, draped rather than folded. Very fine tapers on black candlesticks, black glassware, dark chargers, gold cutlery, so that only flame and metal came back to the camera. A floral composition was laid on the floor at the end of the table, which is the kind of detail nobody notices in daylight and everybody notices at night, when it is the only thing under the horizon line.

Working at that height is mostly a wind problem. Nothing tall survives, nothing loose stays, and the whole set has to be built and photographed inside the short window between the sky going navy and the city lights taking over completely. A rooftop pool also means every element arrives by service lift and gets carried across wet stone, so the design was kept to pieces that could be moved twice and still look untouched. Deja Vu Flowers built the florals, Party Social laid the mise en place, Candle Flair supplied the candles and Reema Siraj Studio made the cake. Hair and makeup were by Nara, the bridal look came from Vanila Studio Dubai with a gown by Zavana Couture and earrings by Ivory & Co, Paula Scalco shot the series and Kris Inspired covered the night.

Blue Night is for those drawn to drama with restraint, a celebration that feels cinematic and intimate at once, suspended over the city at its most beautiful hour.
